Can paint protection film be removed without damaging the paint underneath?
Usually, yes. Film is designed to release from clear coat, and a careful removal leaves the paint in the condition it went on in. Heat is the trick. Warm the panel, work slowly, peel at a low angle, and the adhesive lets go in sheets. Where it goes wrong is film left on years past its life, film installed over paint that was already failing, or somebody going at it with a heat gun and a putty knife. Then you get adhesive residue, or in the bad cases a flake of clear coat that was compromised before anyone touched it. Bring it in before you start pulling. Removal is also the right moment to see what is underneath and decide whether the paint is a candidate for fresh film or a coating.
