Two states of road chemistry on one commute
Minnesota and North Dakota do not treat winter pavement the same way. MnDOT leans on anti-icing, spraying liquid brine on the road before the storm arrives so snow cannot bond to the surface, and pre-wetting its salt at the spinner on the back of the truck. NDDOT's brine is a different recipe, roughly 80 percent salt and water with sugar beet juice blended in to help it cling to the pavement longer.
